Do I need to pay for this?

No! All our courses are free and will be hosted on free learning platforms like Moodle and YouTube. Just tune in and go.

Do I need any experience?

All are welcome! Everyone from students and citizen scientists to seasoned professionals can tune in. As our channel grows we are hoping to include content for all audiences and feature a range of palaeoscience for the discerning diictodon, dinosaur and dodo followers.

Do we need any equipment?

Yes, we are assuming you work at or are associated with a preparation lab with basic equipment. These tools can be quite expensive, and difficult to get set up please volunteer at a preparation lab if you want hands-on experience and access to tools.

But what if I do if I find a fossil and want to prepare it myself?

In South Africa, fossils are protected by law as part of our National Heritage Resources Act and moving and preparing fossils without a research permit will get you into a lot of trouble. If your find a fossil site that looks delicate cover it and take GPS coordinates. We know some wonderful researchers and institutes (with permits) that would love to learn and research with you. So please contact us if want to know where your nearest palaeo lab is.
